1. The three major characters in "The Book Thief" are Liesel Meminger, Hans Hubermann, and Rosa Humbermann. The three minor characters are Liesel's mother, Frau Heinrich, and Rudy Steiner. The minor characters in the story affect how the personalities of the main characters are developed. For example, after Leisel was running with the boy and became muddy, from head to toe, she didn't care about what her stepmother would think of her. This shows that Leisel is becoming detached from her stepmother and is becoming more independent. Elliot - I so love the way you started this assignment; I wish you would have developed your answer. There are more than three characters for each category and more ways in which they affected each other. What about Max?
2. A decision that I didn't agree with in the story was when Liesel didn't care how her stepmother thought about of her being all muddy. I disagree with this because Liese describes her stepmother as being a mean and grouchy old lady which will cause her to be punished greatly for her actions. In this example Liesel doesn't respect her stepmother. Do you think she makes the grandmother think about how rudely she treats Liesel and that she should try to be less grouchy. In a way, the relationship is like Anne. Anne and her mother did not get along, yet Anne and her father had a great relationship. Liesel has a much better relationship with Hans.
3. This story changes my thinking very little, I enjoy learning about World War II and I have great knowledge about the Holocaust. The book is set during World War II, however, it is not set in a concentration camp. This provides me with a different perspective of what it was like to be living in the cites that are controlled by the axis during World War II.
